THE FUTURE OF INDIA and SOUTHASIA?
India has about 160 million family units and a large portion of our population is very young. The line between an infant, child and teenager or young adult is extremely thin. To be born in India is a big challenge, especially for kids whose parents can't afford even the basics, like housing, food and education.
Today unfortunatley India has one of the highest number of children working in odd jobs, earning a pitiful income, just to survive.
Millions of kids should be in class rooms or at homes, but we are unable to provide enough schools or homes.
We have children living in slums and on the streets, child labourers, construction workers children.
Over 50,000 children are abandoned in the country every year. 11 million children live on the streets and there are more than 44 million child labourers in India!!
India is the only country in the world, where children are exploited mercilessly and with cruelty. The compassion of Indian hearts is pretty superficial and i am sorry to state i dont buy the stupid arguments that children in India are better than other countries.
India does have about 200 million people we can consider a certain kind of middle class, yet India does have about 500 million people who do live quite under poverty line.
The poverty in India is one of the most disgusting spot on global humanity today! It is a shame and absolute unforgivable crime that in India bureaucrates and politicians have failed, miserably to provide the basics
to a great number of people.
People are not poor because they want. It is because our resources are ill-distributed, the system simply ignores the very poor and the higher caste/class discrimination further diminishes chances of any upliftment for the poor.
Education is primarily the responsibility of state governments. Elementary education for all children up to 14 years of age is theoretically cumpulsory in all states except Nagaland and Himachal Pradesh (Dont tell me its cold there?).
Lower primary education, for children aged 6 to 11, is free in all states.
Upper primary/middle education for children aged 11-14 is free in 12 states.
But these are just statistics. The reality is that not all kids can really go to schools.
A hungry kid can not learn much.
Most kids who are forced to work, could possibly go to school if they had some support from outside their families.
We are going to discuss here, the issues related to welfare of children in India! An issue of utmost importance as the healthy, educated kids will make India stronger.
If we continue to tolerate the injustice and exploitation of children; India will never go ahead.
