Kristin,
Dowry over the years has been misunderstood, misinterpreted and misused.
Dowry started out as "wealth, jewelry, property or monies given to a girl when she got married for herself to use as she pleased so that she had something of her own if things ever went wrong".
Over the years it had become a ridid requirement for a girl to bring in this type of wealth if she was to get married! Women were killed over unfulfilled promises and buring was the most common method making it believe that she committed suicide. It was ugly for decades. Over the past two decades or so dowry deaths have gone down considerably and laws were passed to make it illegal to ask for dowry.
There is so much literature and information available out there. I'm sure in your research you will find out.

I would like to know the signification of the piercing in the nastrils.
Some women have it on the right nastril and other on the left. Is there a special signification ?
What are the repercussions of these piercings on the women bodies ?
Could you help me to find information on that matter ?
