An Organized social evil or our super macho mentality
In most friends view who study Indian society seriously and as per my own experience, Indian literature and our contemporary society; Indian society is greatly obsessed with having a male child in the family.
This strange and weird phenomena, the zeal to have at least one male child, creates havoc and many families keep making babies in the hope of getting one male child as if it was the only way to survive.
Most educated and very learned people also fall in this illusion and the exceptions are only a tiny minority of very elevated people who believe in having one or two children, irrespective of their gender.
This bias towards male child cause enormous damage to the basic fabric of our society.
This factor has also created many derivative problems like India is going to be THE most populated country in the world in coming decades and there is a certain segment in several areas where girl infants are simply killed immediately after their birth.
Today if you analyze the demographics you will find that there are more men in India than women.
Why this inequality and excessive love for Male?
Indian families give historical and cultural reasons for this like, a boy is the only way our caste will continue, our family will keep propagating, our properties will remain in the family, our son will give fire to our funeral pyre or bury us or he will take care of the land or he will keep the family name intact etc etcetras..
The truth is that Indian families' rather naďve assumptions and strong preference for boys have created a great deal of havoc in our society. It has been proven that Girls are doing equal or better when they are provided equal opportunities. In fact, i feel proud to inform that many latest educational surveys in India show that Girls are performing better than boys....
Indian women are very bright and they are the true assets of every family for they are taking care of their parents, siblings and also business. They can be reliable, strong support and even equally or even better caring compared to boys in most cases.
So these stupid assumptions and myths about BOY MUST are unfounded and evil based on ridiculous literature and self-propagating myths of preservation of family.
We must discuss this issue in great details and find solutions, present new ideas to bring about awareness and awakening in the society in India and Indian communities worldwide.
I can keep writing a lot of stuff but would like you to express your experiences, ideas and feelings on this important and vital issue as it eats up our resources, creates unwanted disharmony and for sure is an obstacle for gender equality. It destroys many families directly and indirectly causing consequently our communities to perform poorly and fall in the traps of poverty and over population.
All major advanced societies have given women the equal powers and I think that key to our future, success, welfare and betterment is in recognizing this vital truth.
Let us find out what are the historical, social, economic and other factors like prestige or family pride etc. which encourage this belief that boy is the salvation of family.
If I sound a feminist that is your choice..
What is wrong in disspelling the foolish myths.
There is nothing wrong in correcting and amending a social monster and evil which hinders our progress. Sorry to hurt the typical male is god attitude promoting folks!
We should believe in absolute equality of gender and i have proven facts and conviction that unless we don’t change our mentality on this issue we can never truly grow……
