Marriage is considered a sacred union and our ancestors have followed the verbal traditions and customs for various significant reasons. This sacred union is a fusion of two energies (Positive/negative, Lingam/Yoni (Chinese call it Ying/Yang)(pronounced as Jinga/J'ong apparently they couldnt pronounce Sanskrit words), two families, two genetic codes, two cultures! Marriage is an ancient social order and dharma (duty) which must be followed. (So people get married fast it is your prime duty, heavenly bliss (!) but dont fight when married
With urban life, higher mobility, more education, 'liberation' of women, more women in workplace, faster travel, media etc. have changed our life styles and our thinking patterns. This has also meant that we have become more active in taking control of our own lives.
While parental respect is still an important aspect of our lives, more and more people want to marry a person of their choice and dont accept a blind date or rather arranged marriage partner. (I wont mind though but my parents are too modern to arrange for me oh lord!! Help! arrange my marriage or make me fall in love with a woman, (sounds desperate..!!#$)
Let us discuss on these issues and see if there is any third way out?? Teesra raasta? What a title... Please feel free to express yourself and ask questions. Most respectfully yours Pk Kapila
